FOOTSCRAY Baseball Club’s (FBC) junior program, riding on the back of an extremely successful summer campaign, continues to grow with the entry of an Under 15 team into the Victorian Winter Baseball League competition.

During summer the Club’s Little League team (Under 12 age group) completed the home and away season with only one loss and then took out a thrilling one-run victory in the Grand Final against arch rivals Newport Rams.

Half of the Under 14 team were so keen on the sport that they asked to continue playing through winter and that has resulted in the first ever junior winter team being entered by FBC. The side trains on Wednesdays at Hanks Reserve, Yarraville, while the competition began on Saturday with the first game at North Balwyn.

GOALKEEPERS prepare to strap on your gloves – David Coles is coming to town.

The professional goalkeeper coach in the United Kingdom’s Premier League competition will be in Melbourne to run a series of goalkeeper coaching sessions at La Trobe University.

Coles is the senior goalkeeper coach at Portsmouth FC where he works closely with England’s Number one keeper David James.

Premier Football Tuition, run by Delahey’s Roy Hunter will be hosting Coles’ visit. In 2007 Premier Football Tuition brought Eric Steele (current Manchester United senior goalkeeper coach) to Melbourne in a similar event with more than 200 local goalkeepers receiving tuition.

The clinics will be held on 6-7 June La Trobe University – Bundoora.

WERRIBEE Metro defeated Federal Bayside by 32 points in the Victorian Masters Football League.

Werribee with several new players jumped to an early lead and were never caught leading by nine goals going into the last quarter, the final score 12.9.81 to 7.7.49. Greg Cunningham ran all day for Werribee, while forward Paul Trimble and ruckman Michael Jacob were also strong contributors.

Werribee Country went down to Melton by 37 points, the final score 10.6.66 to 4.5.29.

Melton jumped to an early six-goal lead in the first quarter and while Werribee was competitive for the rest of the match, the lead was too great. Full back Joe D’Arma, Steve Dale and Rahmi D’Nihat were strong performers.

WERRIBEE Centrals travelled to Anakie, the clubs nearest rival, in the fifth round of Geelong District Football League and came away with a strong 72-point victory.

It was a competitive match for three quarters before the Centrals stormed home to blow out the margin with the final score 20.10.130 to 8.10.58. David Kennedy and David Todaro were influential across half back, while Anthony Kitchen was a pillar up forward finishing with six goals.

WERRIBEE Centrals A Grade team used its pace through the centre to notch up an easy win against Anakie in the Geelong District Netball League, the final score 63 to 14.

With the absence of Ashlee Depetro and Jackie McCauley, Centrals tried a few different combinations in defence, but it was Casey Price (GD) who stole the show with countless interceptions to be named best on court. Hailey Sildatke and Mickayla Ward were also key performers in the win.
