WILLIAMSTOWN Lacrosse Club is looking for big things in 2009.

With all three senior divisions playing finals, culminating in the State League and Division Three premierships, senior coach Darren Gibson is looking forward to this season.

Gibson, a former Australian captain and World Cup representative, is again at the helm of the club.

However with a number of players missing from last year’s State League side with retirements and departures, he will look to the return of Ben Newman from overseas and Wes Green, a former American college and Los Angeles star to buoy the side this year.

“It’s an exciting time for the club,” he said.

“We are the defending premiers and there is a real competition for places in our State League team, with many of the younger players from last year’s Under 18 side and Division One side seeking to stake their claim.

“The atmosphere around the club is just fantastic.”

Gibson is looking forward to renewing rivalries with the Altona Lacrosse Club.

This year Williamstown will unfurl their State League flag in the opening game of the season at Fearon Reserve on Saturday.
