Foam fun … Wallan Primary School prep student Abby celebrates Father’s Day by ‘shaving’ dad Michael with an icy pole stick. Picture: DAMJAN JANEVSKI.
THEY are the Father’s Day standards: Socks, undies, hankies, maybe breakfast in bed – and shaving cream.
Last week at Wallan Primary School, preps put that shaving cream to use, lathering up their dads before providing a pretend shave with an icy pole stick.
Then there was the hair treatment, as the school’s library was converted temporarily into a barber’s shop so the littlies could offer their beloved dads a Father’s Day treat.
Prep teacher Sandra Allison said of the four prep classes, most of the pupils had a dad to work on – some maybe a grand-dad or even an uncle – and it was a great turnout.
“They turned up straight after school finished and the kids welcomed them and thanked them for coming and we all headed to the library,” she said “There were 51 dads out of about 88 preps which is way better than we thought because they all had to finish work early, so it was a great effort that so many turned up.
“We had some dads that didn’t have hair and they ended up with shaving cream all over their foreheads and the tops of their heads as well but they were really good sports.”
Some were even tattooed – not permanently of course – in the oddest places, including foreheads and necks.
“They were having lots of fun by the end so it was great,” Ms Allison said.
Earlier in the day, the children had prepared sausage rolls and cookies for afternoon tea. The nibbles were washed down with a glass of water by the fathers as they watched a footy grand final repeat. A beer in hand and it would probably have been the perfect afternoon of pampering.
