WALLAN is through to the Gisborne and District Cricket Association B Grade grand final, after sneaking home in its semi-final over Sunbury by two wickets at Greenhill oval on Sunday.

Chasing a solid 205 from the visitors, the Magpies were pegged back early and were looking down the barrel at 6/80, but some resistance from the lower order proved a winner, according to captain Paul Miller.

“We fought it out, right to the end. I know 205 doesn’t sound like much (runs), but being a semi it probably was.

“Brenton Hansen stood up and made 59, and Steve Falla made 33, it was a great partnership, and to be honest, it pretty much won us the game.”

Wallan take on Diggers Rest/Bulla in the two-day grand final this weekend at Greenhill Oval.
