Pet therapist Alison Mason and her K9

VOLUNTEER pet therapist Alison Mason has started her rounds at Casey Hospital with her K9 companion, Byron the golden retriever.

Ms Mason and Byron are brightening up the days for sick kids on the ward at the Berwick hospital. Volunteering at the hospital is a first for both Ms Mason and Byron.

“It’s extremely rewarding,” she said.

“When I take him down the street people want to pat him. Children just seem to light up. It’s a great way to give something back.” Ms Mason has been looking after Byron since he was a puppy. He is now nearly three.

The pair will visit Casey Hospital Monash Children’s ward once a fortnight.
