HILLS art mecca Burrinja will celebrate its 10th birthday this month.

The community is invited to mark the milestone at the cultural centre on Sunday 14 December.

Dubbed TEN plus TEN, the party of possibilities, fun, performance, food and art will reflect on the past 10 years and plan for the decade ahead.

In 1998 Dandenong Ranges Community Cultural Centre took up residence in the former Sherbrooke Shire offices.

It has evolved to become what Burrinja is today.

“Our 10th birthday is a wonderful chance to reflect on where we’ve come from, what we’ve achieved and how the community sees our role,” Burrinja executive officer Ross Farnell said.

The community can contribute to celebrations by answering 10 questions online at http://mercury.drccc.org.au/blog.

Questions include what does Burrinja mean to you, is Burrinja inspiring, and what is its future.

Responses will help Burrinja to grow into the future and shape its community interaction.

Mr Farnell said community feedback was crucial ahead of the centre’s $9.6 million redevelopment, which is scheduled for next year.

“It is important to us to identify the essence of what Burrinja is to the community, and ensure that we maintain those things that are unique about Burrinja,” he said.

Burrinja is located at 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey.

The celebrations will run from 11am to 3pm.

More information on the 10th birthday celebrations is available by sending an email to ten@burrinja.org.au or calling 9754 8723.
