Beaconsfield superules player Andrew Walsh tumbles backward in a marking attempt.

BEACONSFIELD Superules third-division side lost to local rivals Hallam in a two-point thriller at the Perc Allison Reserve at the weekend.

Beaconsfield got of to a great start with a goal in first minute to Van Den Berghe, however Hallam hit back quickly to level the scores.

Beaconsfield’s midfield in Anderson and Staunton were giving Beaconsfield plenty of drive forward and their efforts were not going unrewarded with Cameron and Wilson providing targets.

Nearing the end of the term Wilson roved a marking contest to get Beaconsfield’s second major for the term and from the restart went forward with a free kick paid to Wilson at centre half-forward.

However the advantage rule was applied and Van Den Berghe ran into an open goal to kick Beaconsfield’s third for the term to go in five points up at the first change.

Hallam hit the ground running at the start of the second term, handling the slippery conditions better than Beaconsfield that saw them get a few early goals to take the lead.

Moore, ever reliable down back with good support from Hocking, Sherris and Lansbury were applying plenty of pressure on the Hallam forwards.

Davine was also putting in a good game with many attacking drives across the middle for Beaconsfield and drifting down to the forward pocket took possession and with a nice hook shot got the first goal for the term.

Later in the term, a 30-metre penalty to Wilson put him in range for Beaconsfield’s second for the quarter.

At half-time Beaconsfield trailed by 12 points.

The third term did not go to plan for Beaconsfield as they only managed 1 goal for the term through Valentine, while Hallam posted a further three goals to see them with a handy lead at the last change.

The final term saw Beaconsfield’s best quarter of football for the year.

Wilson, who was quiet during the third term, lifted as did Anderson, Staunton and Waddell in the midfield.

The backline also lifted played a more accountable brand of football playing man on man and shutting down Hallam’s opportunities up forward.

Coach Blackburn drifted forward early to get his first for the game and Beaconsfield now trailed by only three goals.

Halfway through the term, Short went down with an injured knee and was stretchered off the ground and this inspired Beaconsfield to lift another notch.

Van Den Berghe found himself on the end of some good play from the midfield and converted truly and two minutes later Wilson marked and kicked Beaconsfield’s ninth goal for the game to find itself trailing by eight points with a minute to play.

Back in the centre at the re start, Anderson got the ball forward to Beaconsfield’s half-forward line where Valentine was awarded a free kick and with a Hallam player remonstrating also gave away a 30-meter penalty to put Valentine in the goal square for a shot on goal.

He converted truly, however it was all too late as the final siren sounded.

Final scores Beaconsfield 10.10.70 lost to Hallam 11.6.72.

Goals: Wilson and Van Den Berghe 3, Valentine 2, Blackburn and Davine.

Best: Wilson, Staunton, Hocking, Anderson and Davine.
