Championships begin at Pakenham

Pakenham ladies president Jenny Bayard presents the Fisher and Paykel trophy to winner Judy Horne.

SATURDAY was the first round of the 4BBB Championships at Pakenham Golf Club with the leaders being Scott Hooper and David Horne, Scott Milnes and Stojko Kresojevic and Dan Cameron and Clint Walker.

The A Grade handicap leaders are Grant McKay and Rodney Whitehead and the B Grade Handicap leaders are Dale Richards and Barry Williams.

McKay and Whitehead are the winners of the day competition coming in with 62.

The Down the Lines went to Hooper/Horne 63, Williams/Richards, Brian Webster/Rob Sandiford 64, Ted Rodgers/Stan Gilbert 64, Paul Hobson/Bob Dowse 64, Bob Yates/Bob Collins 64, Gordon MacKenzie/Kevin Sander 64, Phil Tunstall/Michael Davey 65, Russell Slobodiuk/John Piggott 65, Barrie Seldon/Bob Scullion 65, Michael Hildebrand/Glenn Hildebrand 65, Graeme Steel/Arthur Ellis 65, Glen Easto/Patrick Farrell 65, Doug Law/Rod Cameron 65, David Shannon/Mason Shadwell 65 and Rob Curtis/Trevor Smith 63.

The Nearest the Pin on the second hole went to Mick Conroy with Brian Ford taking out the fifth hole.

Neil De Silva was closest on the eighth hole, as was David Shannon on the 14th hole.

The 16th hole went to Angie Peluso.

Rodney Whitehead took out the second shot on the sixth hole.

The Longest Drives saw Stojko Kresojevic the winner of A Grade with Tony Sheehan winning B Grade. The C Grade award went to Richard Walker.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:SPECIAL OFFER FOR JUNIOR MEMBERS

The club is promoting junior membership at the moment, and juniors under the age of 18 years can join the club for $50 (12 months membership).

Members must gain a handicap and participate in some clinics conducted by Pakenham’s professional golfer Shannon Sandiford.

There will be a small charge for the clinics.

The cost is $110 for those aged between 18 and 21 and the same conditions apply.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:COMING EVENT

Rodney Vincent, 2006 Victorian Entertainer of the Year, is visiting Pakenham Golf Club on Friday night, 27 July.

The club is offering a great night out for $35 a head, including a two-course meal.

Book early to ensure a seat, as if past shows are anything to go by it will be booked out early.

To all those members who have won an event and have a credit at the golf shop, please make sure this money is spent prior to the end of the financial year, 30 June.

All credit accounts will be brought back to zero balance on this date.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:MEN’S PENNANT

The club is excited this week as two of the four Men’s Pennant teams have made the finals to be played at Warragul next Sunday.

Section One comes up against Traralgon and Section Four plays Garfield.

Last Sunday the semi-finals were held and there were no second chances, but both teams gritted their teeth and came home winners.

Congratulations to all and best of luck next Sunday.

There was no Monday competition due to the West Gippsland Veterans competing at Pakenham.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:WEDNESDAY COMPETITION (20 JUNE)

The players had a cold start and the rain threatened for most of the round, but Stojko Kresojevic braved the conditions to come in with 38 points to win on a countback from Rod Cameron.

The Down the Lines went to Stan Gilbert, Heath Barclay, Cliff Pain and Kingi Horua, all with 37 points, followed by Bert Burniston 35, Mal McKenna 34, Ron Seamer 34, Tasi Taito 34 and George Coffey 34.

The Nearest the Pin on the eighth hole was won by G. Ward and the 14th hole went to Stan Gilbert.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:SUNDAY COMPETITION

The Sunday competition was won by Ross MacLean with 35 from David Manning 34 and Keith Norman 34.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:LADIES NOTES (21 JUNE)

The ladies played a stableford round, which was the first round of Australia’s most successful women’s golfing tournament, the Fisher and Paykel Classic.

The day’s winner was Judy Horne with 37 points with the Division One winner Lyn Murray with 34, while Division Two went to Dini Krytenberg with 34 points.

The Nearest the Pin on the 14th hole was won by Jan Creagh.

The Down the Line balls went to Libby De Hey 32, June McCardel 31, Helen Aurish 30 and Loretta Stewart 30.

Next week is the Doris Chambers Foursomes.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:SATURDAY LADIES

The winner of the stableford competition was Haley Hunter with 39 points with the Down the Line balls going to Liz Garvey 31 and Leanne Andrews 31.

The 16th hole was won by Jan Creagh for the second week in a row.
