Top tee-off for trophy

Drouin Golf Club ladies Betty Johnson and life member Edna Cropley. Betty Johnson (handicap 30) was the winner of the Edna Cropley Trophy at Drouin Golf Club on 19 June with a nett three-round score of 221.
ALL is set for the quarter-finals of the Stroud Trophy at Drouin Golf Club after the second and qualifying round on Saturday.
There were 47 pairs that teed off in the four-ball-best-ball Stableford event with Peter Blackwell and Geoff Anderson winning the day event with 45 points on a count back from Bill Pyle and Geoff Anderson.
Craig Cottier and Danny Burke scored 44 points as did brothers Steve and Peter Bethune.
Balls down the line went to pairs on 43 or better.
Nearest to pins - 14th: Mark Wootton, 17th: Shane Dwyer, 23rd (pro pin): Paul Matthews.
Eights pairs have qualified for the quarter-finals.
The draw is: (1) Peter Blackwell and Geoff Anderson v (8) Ian Hemphill and Rolf Loebert, (2) Craig Cottier and Danny Burke v (7) Peter and Steven Bethune, (3) Mark Wootton and Ron Degering v (6) Shane and Liam Dwyer, (4) Colin Moss and Garry Burke v (5) Paul Ziebell and Jack Gardiner.
These matches will be played on or before 7 July.
Ladies club champion Di Sullivan scored 35 Stableford points to win the ladies competition on Saturday, the CCR was 74.

In freezing conditions 72 took to the course - enough players for just two grades.
Although the CCR came out at the maximum 74, there were a few good Stableford scores, none better than new member Ian Holdsworth (handicap 28) with an excellent 43 points to win B-grade and will lose four shots off his handicap.
B-grade runner-up was Andrew Anderson with 34.
A-grade winner was Charlie Hardy (13) with 37 points on a countback from Brett Dessent.
George Shand 36 and Cameron Snell 35 were next best.
Balls down the line went to those on 34 or better.
Nearest to pin - 14th: Leigh Steenholdt.
Charlie Hardy won the seniors’ nine-hole competition with 19 points from Bruce Horskins 16.

All West Gippsland Pennant semi-final matches were played at Drouin on Sunday.
Drouin’s division-one team went down 5-2 against a strong Pakenham team that will now go on to play Traralgon in the final this week.

Last Tuesday members braved the cold wind to play the final round of the club championships and the Edna Cropley Trophy. The CCR was 74 nett.
Irene Morgan won silver division with 70 nett and the runner-up was Shirley Todd with 74 nett.
Betty Johnson won bronze-one division with 73 nett and the runner-up was Kerryn Milner with 80 nett.
Val Johnson won bronze-two division with 76 nett and the runner-up was Poss Leeson with 80 nett.
Nearest the pin on the 19th was Margaret Purcell.
Down-the-line balls went to Di Sullivan, 77 nett, Von Kenny, 78 nett, and Margaret Purcell, 79 nett on a countback.

The 2007 club champion is Di Sullivan with a gross score of 272 for the three rounds.
Irene Morgan and Shirley Todd tied for runner-up with a gross score of 275. Shirley declined the play-off and Irene was declared runner-up.
Bronze-one division champion is Kerryn Milner with 302 and the runner-up is Bernace Miller with 312.
Bronze-two division champion is Betty Johnson with 311 and the runner-up is Marion Devlin with 341.
Mildred Lyon won the Thursday nine-hole seniors’ competition with 15 points.
In the men’s section the winner was Charlie Hardy with 19 points. Runners-up were Bruce Horskins, 16 points, Lester Smethurst and Graeme Dorling both with 15 points.
This week is Stableford and is Anti Cancer Donation Day.
Next week will be stroke, monthly medal and fourth round of the silver spoon.
