Blue Rock rockets to record

Blue Rock shows his opposition a clean pair of hooves at Warragul last week.
TRAFALGAR trotter Blue Rock’s winning performance at last Thursday’s Warragul harness racing meeting was nothing short of outstanding.
Admittedly, Blue Rock was the class horse of the race, however he still had to give his nearest rival 30 metres head start under the handicap conditions and over the relatively short distance of 2205 metres.
The race was also run on a rain-affected track.
After a solid beginning from his 70-metre handicap, Blue Rock was amazingly in front of the field after 800 metres.
Driver Glenn Hunter then controlled the lead and Blue Rock ran out a four-metre winner.
And for good measure, Blue Rock also broke the track record for 2205 metres, by one second.
This itself gives the Chris Hunter trained horse a unique feat, as he now holds both trotting track records at Warragul, for 2205 metres, and 2620 metres.
Blue Rock has also claimed the lead in the Warragul ‘Horse of the Year’ award.
Elsewhere, some smart horses won races at the meeting.
Longwarry three-year-old Ulos won his second race in a week by winning the first race.
Giveusachance, a half sister to the champion pacer Sokyola, broke through for her second win and two-year-old Irish Sailor showed he is a horse of good ability with a strong debut win.
Irish Sailor was driven by Brian Gath, who made the long trip from Bendigo for one drive before heading to Echuca for that night’s meeting.
Race five almost resulted in a triple dead heat when Rapdanz and Roaming Ranger shared first place, with Warrior Cam only inches behind them.
The next Warragul races are on Thursday, 12 July.
