SIPPING a cup of tea has helped raise thousands of dollars for charity.

Cardinia Shire residents turned out in force at functions around the district for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

Heather Greening said a morning tea at her home in Campbell Street, Garfield, raised $917.40.

About 35 people attended the function, now in its seventh year, she said. “My neighbours tell me I’m having it every year.”

Pakenham builder George Single said 14 tradespeople on one of his building sites chipped in $350 at a morning tea.

A recent barbecue raised a further $540.

Mr Single said the Don Stephens Team that raised $20,000 at the Relay for Life earlier this year, had been renamed All Our People.

“Fundraising efforts are continuing,” he said.
