TENNIS fans are on to winner after a decision by Cardinia civic leaders.

The draft council budget for the coming financial year will see the development of a new 16-court regional tennis complex in Webster Way in Pakenham.

The council said this new complex would be an innovative development catering for the full range of tennis needs and the pavilion component would also provide for function and meeting room space for community use.

Providing new and improved recreational facilities in and around Pakenham and the growth corridor was said to be a priority for the council to accommodate the recreational needs for the growing population in the area.

The new centre is expected to be a major venue for both competition and informal tennis in the Pakenham district.

The total cost of the complex will be $2.5 million and the State Government has provided a grant of $500,000 to cover part of the cost.

Funds will also be sought from the Federal Government.
