A PAKENHAM mother was recognised for her efforts and commitment to a local playgroup when she was presented with a prestigious Victoria Playgroup award.
Nell Briffa was rewarded by the state’s peak playgroup organisation for seven years of hard work and dedication to Pakenham Playgroup.
Pakenham Playgroup Committee member Sharon Price said Ms Briffa was a worthy recipient of the award.
“She’s exerted herself beyond the call of duty,” she said.
“She basically kept the group running by herself for several years.
“She’s very devoted and very kind. She’s not one to brag either, it’s always about the children.”
Ms Briffa kept the playgroup running for seven years, even dipping into her own pocket when the need arose, Ms Price said.
She said the arrival of a group of new mothers allowed Ms Briffa to leave knowing that the playgroup would continue to run smoothly.
“Without Ms Briffa’s devotion in running the playgroup and with nobody willing to take it on it may have been forced to close.”
“She stayed on board until she knew it could keep going,” she said.
Playgroup Victoria executive officer Kaye Plowman said the award recognised Ms Briffa’s commitment to Pakenham Playgroup.
“Playgroups across Victoria are run by dedicated volunteers who freely give their time and expertise. The awards are a chance to thank some of our long serving members from our playgroup community for their ongoing commitment,” she said.
