City puts forward its case for bus shelters

CASEY Council is determined to get its fair share of new bus shelters.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said he welcomed a State Government announcement that new shelters would be provided throughout Melbourne.
“Casey is one of Victoria’s fastest-growing municipalities and the most populous.
“Casey’s location in the outer south-eastern metropolitan region means access to adequate public transport is an ongoing challenge for our community.
“We welcome the opportunity to receive new shelters and the council is developing a priority list for the government to consider in identifying the locations in most urgent need of shelters,” Cr Butler said.
“These proposed shelters have improved community safety features, such as internal lighting and clear panels and will be cleaned regularly and maintained promptly.
“Some shelters will include an advertising component and as a result the income stream will offset installation and maintenance costs. We are hopeful that Casey will receive up to 40 shelters in the first two years of the project and up to 100 shelters of the 1300 available during the program period.”
