Have your say on tourism

GEMBROOK MP Tammy Lobato has invited businesspeople who rely on tourism to contribute to the parliamentary inquiry into tourism.
She said the inquiry would investigate economic benefits, the effects of natural events such as drought and fire on tourism, flow-on benefits, potential impediments to the growth of tourism, the effectiveness of existing tourism programs and promotions, investment in tourism, and initiatives to increase tourism.
“Municipalities and anyone else with an interest in rural and regional tourism should also take part,” she said.
The closing date for submissions is Friday 1 June.
“The committee will also hold public hearings in Melbourne and across Victoria,” Ms Lobato said.
“The submissions and the hearings will form the basis of a report to the Parliament, which will include recommendations as to what measures can be taken to enhance tourism in rural and regional Victoria.
“I urge local operators and community groups to have their say.”
Further information on the inquiry as well as the terms of reference and a guide for submissions can be found www.parliament.vic.gov.au/rrc/, or through Ms Lobato on 9796 1987.
