A TASTE of multiculturalism was enjoyed at Kooweerup last week.

The Killara Hostel and Westernport Nursing Home held a multicultural afternoon tea, giving residents the chance to experience food, music and knowledge of different countries and cultures.

Staff and students helped to make the day interesting by giving detailed talks and dressing in traditional costumes.

Diversional therapist Cathy Bain said the Kooweerup facility boasted several cultures including Dutch, German, English, Italian and Croatian.

“We gave the residents a taste of many different foods from other countries, including hot dogs (American), dim sims and spring rolls (China), meat pies (Australia), cakes and mop rolls (Holland), breads (German), pizza (Italian) and many more tasty delights.

“We have many different events at our facility. They are enjoyable and very rewarding for all those who have the privilege to work and support elderly people and those with disabilities,” she said.

Ms Bain said staff were fortunate to have a small group of volunteers who offered help and support at Killara Hostel and Westernport Nursing Home.

Residents wishing to volunteer should contact 5997 9666.
