A champion team: Joan Walker, Col Luxford, John Walker and Phyl Philmore celebrate with their tournament trophy.
A TALENTED team of bowlers are the toast of Pakenham’s Meadowvale retirement village.
Col Luxford, Phyl Philmore, Joan Walker and her husband – and team skip – John Walker recently swept to glory in a regional bowls tournament.
The fantastic foursome took on more than 40 other teams from retirement villages around Melbourne in a twoday competition at Cranbourne.
Their 38point win in the keenly contested event was the first time Meadowvale had claimed the title after finishing runnerup last year.
Team members and retirees gathered to celebrate the victory at a special afternoon tea on Friday. Meadowvale Bowls Club president Jack Munro said it was a terrific achievement.
“They all played very well,” he said.
Skip John Walker said he and his teammates had formed a close bond and greatly enjoyed the two days of competition.
“We were rapt,” he said. “There are a lot of good bowlers in the retirement villages around the area so it was great to win.
“We had a lot of fun.”
