Exciting forward Anthony Tipungwuti sprints away from his Bushrangers opponent on a damaging day up forward in which he booted three goals and set up a few more.

GIPPSLAND Power proved it was ready for finals footy with a resounding 113-point demolition job over Murray Bushrangers at Casey Fields on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams went into the final round of the TAC Cup season level on premiership points, but some injuries in the Bushrangers camp left them vulnerable to what transpired on the weekend.

Power coach Damian Carroll was delighted with the win but said the focus was now on playing finals football this week.

“It was really great win by the boys. Coming into the game we wanted to play the type of footy we are capable of and I think we did that,” he said.

“We’ll bring in some confidence from the weekend against the Jets, but we’ll start again and switch our focus on them (Jets) who will be desperate to knock us off.”

The match was set up by the Power in a stirring first quarter highlighted by its defensive pressure (27 tackles) and seven goals booted by a handful of potent forwards – Jed Lamb, Dean MacDonald, Tipungwuti.

By quarter-time the Power held a 40-point lead and the onslaught continued in the second term with another seven goals to one.

At half-time the Power had 27 scoring shots to the Bushrangers’ four (14.13 to 2.2) in a half of utter dominance.

“To be fair, Murray had a few injuries and some players underdone, but I felt we took advantage of that,” Carroll said. “I was really happy with the pressure we put on that caused turnovers. It was fantastic to watch.”

With the result firmly in the Power’s bag, Carroll chose to switch up some of the positions to give the midfield likes of Tim Northe, Dyson Heppell and Jed Lamb a spell to make way for some of the younger, inexperienced players.

“We mixed it up a bit in the second half, we tried a few players in different roles just to ease the load and nurse any niggling injuries,” he said.

“It took a while for us to get going again in the third quarter, but it was a fantastic effort to be able to change things up and still finish off the game well heading into finals.”

Gippsland Power will meet Western Jets this Sunday 11am at VISY Park in a knock-out final.
