SOMERVILLE moved in to a second semi-final showdown with Nepean League premiership favourites Sorrento, after downing a gallant Red Hill by 14 points in Saturday’s qualifying finals.

The Eagles trailed the Hillmen until shortly before the end of the third term, and then hung on to a lead of under a goal in a desperate last quarter, before star forward Glen Boyd sealed the game with his third goal minutes before the final siren. Boyd and Joel Atkins combined to boot eight of the Eagles’ 11 goals in a match-winning performance.

Sunday’s elimination final saw Rye defeat Rosebud by seven points in a see-sawing affair.

Star Demon Ben Holmes booted four goals while veteran former AFL forward Steve Ryan also finished with three majors for the victors.

In the Peninsula League, Mt Eliza continued its stellar late season form to down fourth placed Karingal by 28 points.

Redlegs goalsneak Grant Masterson kicked four majors as his side booked a top three berth in this weekend’s finals.

Seaford star Pat Cadd booted seven goals in the Tigers 75-point demolition of Langwarrin, while Lewis Roberts added five goals to his season’s tally in Frankston YCW’s 83-point victory over Edithvale-Aspendale.

In other round 18 results, Bonbeach finished its year with a 46-point win over Mornington and Chelsea tuned up for the elimination final with a 31-point win over Pines.
