The facility will undergo a revamp, and the ‘Millrise’ development – eight new units currently being built on the corner of Ahern Road and the Princes Highway – will offer more options for seniors.
Speaking at the organisation’s annual general meeting on Thursday, president Rob Nobelius said the year ahead would be challenging, exciting and rewarding.
“We don’t offer things like swimming pools and gyms, we offer a different operation – it’s really a pretty good one,” he said
“It will be a small group, community friendly. The idea is that the partner can live in the unit, and can walk across (to Pakenham Aged Care) to see their partner, and keep their relationship together.”
Residents of the Millrise units, which are wheelchair friendly, must be over 65. The units should be available early next year.
A life membership was dedicated to Charlie Rossetti, member and building committee chair, who could not attend as he was holidaying in Queensland.
Mr Rossetti joined the committee in 1976 and has been president and vice-president in that time.
McMillan MP Russell Broadbent praised the efforts of Mr Rossetti and the rest of the committee.
“It is a significant occasion when someone like Charlie Rossetti gets a life membership,” Mr Broadbent said.
“I know personally the spirit of the place is fantastic.
“Note that the community you serve, for your residents that are here now and there families, it all comes back to the residents. I really appreciate the work that you are doing. Throughout my whole electorate, I can not tell you one place where staff do not give the best care and internationally, we should be very proud.”
The front of the Pakenham Aged Care facility will also undergo a revamp, with several rooms, a kitchen and laundry to be refurbished.
The renovations, which will hopefully start within the next 12 months, will create an additional 16 beds.
