BERWICK singers will participate in the fourth ChoralMontsalvat festival on Sunday, 6 May.

More than 30 singers will take part in the annual event at Melbourne’s loved artists’ colony.

Fourteen choirs from in and around Melbourne, including the Berwick Youth Choir, will provide five hours of entertainment in three galleries, concluding with a ‘from scratch’ performance of Faure’s Requiem at 4pm, in which all participating choirs and audience members are invited to sing.

Artistic director Faye Dumont said ChoralMontsalvat was a celebration of the choral art.

“We are pleased to welcome five new choirs this year.

“There will be adult and children’s choirs, sacred and secular music, folk songs, spirituals and selections from musicals.

“During the five hours of the festival, there will be something for everyone who appreciates the rich resource that choral music brings to our community,” Melbourne Ms Dumont said.

Chamber Choir member Simon Loveless, of Berwick, said he was excited about the opportunity to make music with so many others.

“We are singing a lovely program of Spanish music, accompanied by head of guitar at the Victorian College of the Arts, Anthony Field.

“Montsalvat is a lovely place to perform and to hear other people sing, “ Mr Loveless said.

The Berwick Youth Choir is again among the select choirs invited to sing at Montsalvat.

The choir will sing a mix of traditional classics and modern compositions. The gates will open at 9am for those wishing to make a day of it, enjoy a coffee in the Montsalvat cafe or a picnic with family and friends.

Tickets are available in advance on 9818 1926 or on the day.
