Sean Towse from Pakenham’s Evergreen Turf prepares for life after hair after the Shave for a Cure fundraiser.
SEAN Towse will be hoping his hair grows back as quickly as the grass he tends at work.
The assistant production manager at Pakenham’s Evergreen Turf was one of many people whose heads were shaved, clipped or coloured in a day of serious fun on Friday.
Brave and bighearted residents across Cardinia Shire had their locks lopped as part of the Shave for a Cure fundraiser.
Others chose to have their do dyed to help support the Leukaemia Foundation.
Mr Towse, who raised more than $1500 for the cause, said he was inspired to do it after losing an aunt to leukaemia.
Evergreen managing director Rob Davey presented Sean with a cheque for $500 to help the cause.
“I basically wanted to make a small difference in some way, it’s not too much to ask,” Mr Towse said.
Two staff members at Mecwa Cardinia Care centre had their heads shaved at popular watering hole the Pakenham Hotel on Friday evening in a move that proved irresistible for pub patrons.
Mecwa volunteer coordinator Sandra Hayes said Barb Carruthers and Jenny Pickering both gave up their hair, setting an example that many others followed.
“About 15 people ended up having their heads shaved, it was hilarious,” Mrs Hayes said.
“We had two buzzers going nonstop, others had their hair coloured. It was a really good night.”
Mrs Hayes said $685 was raised in what was a fantastic effort by pub patrons and staff.
Pakenham mum Carol Lissenden and daughters Faith and Verity let the crew at Kutting Kapers have their way for the second year.
Kutting Kapers hairdresser Karla Clarke said it was a brave effort by the trio and a lot of fun.
Mr Towse said his fiancee got a shock when he got home from work on Friday evening.
He has until November to grow it back before the couple are wed.
“But if I had known how cold it was going to be I might have thought twice,” he said. “I don’t usually wear a hat or beanie but I don’t think I’ve taken it off since. It’s bloody freezing.”
